Institute for Research in Environment, Civil Engineering and Energy – IECE is a private non-profit research institute strategically oriented towards sustainability. IECE was accredited by the Ministry of education and science in 2014.
IECE was established by the Civil Engineering Institute MACEDONIA JSC Skopje (CEIM), а private company, founded in 1975, employing more than 320 people, leader in the Macedonian market, with subsidiaries in Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and Albania.
CEIM investments in science and establishing a research institute is exceptional, and serve a greater purpose, contributing to the society as a whole. The establishment of IECE was based on the adopted strategy of CEIM for investment in science and education as the highest form of CSR.
CEIM is a unique brand that offers a wide range of services and provides complex solutions for the most complex projects in the field of civil engineering: consulting in all project phases (preparation and audit of studies, urban plans, designs, tenders, reports), supervision and quality control during construction, project management and engineering, laboratory quality control of construction works and materials, certification of construction products, the performance of geological, hydrogeological and geotechnical research works, the performance of complex specialized construction works.

IECE centres its education, research and consultancy services in the following fields: Environment, Civil Engineering, Energy, Management, Social Sciences and IT. Through each of these fields, we address the major sustainable issues and challenges faced at national and international level.
IECE is positioned as an interface between academia and industry, to provide a mutual and beneficial exchange of knowledge, ideas and expertise, and to create platforms for knowledge exchange and networking.
The driving strategy of IECE is based on having an orientation towards sustainable development and an economy based on knowledge, so that can encourage future generations to continue discovering, creating, modelling, executing, monitoring and improving R&D activities and applied knowledge, skills and competence that are required to ensure the wellbeing of future generations.
Aiming to support the innovation eco-system in the knowledge-based economy and the triple helix through collaboration and strategic partnerships, IECE created the CO-IN© Model, which is validated and recognised worldwide. This model enables communication and long-term cooperation among different relevant stakeholders (industry, government, educational institutions, professional associations and NGOs). Organisational structure
Management Board
The IECE Management Board is responsible for the overall corporate governance of the Institute, including strategic direction, establishing policies and goals, and monitoring the achievement of those goals to optimise the Institute’s performance.
Scientific Committee
The Scientific Committee is responsible for creating the annual research and education strategy and program. Its members are prominent professionals with recognised excellence, competencies spreading across disciplines, seniority and relevant experience.
Advisory Board
The IECE Advisory Board consists of a group of business and academic professionals with the primary goal to council and recommends the various research, innovation, business, social, legal and economic trends worldwide.
